Indian cricket all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been pivotal in Abhishek Sharma’s journey to earning a BCCI Grade C Central Contract for 2024-25.
Abhishek Sharma, a 24-year-old Indian cricketer, credits Yuvraj with transforming his career, guiding him from a wayward teenager to a national prospect.
Yuvraj’s father, Yograj Singh, shared with News 18 Punjabi how Yuvraj recognised Abhishek’s potential during the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) age-group tournaments. Initially misidentified as a bowler by PCA coaches, Abhishek had already scored 24 centuries. “Yuvraj challenged the coaches’ misconceptions,” Yograj recalled, ensuring that Abhishek’s batting talent was acknowledged.

Yograj revealed that Abhishek’s father struggled to curb his son’s late-night partying. Yuvraj stepped in, enforcing discipline. “Yuvraj told him, ‘It’s 9 pm, go to bed,’” Yograj said, recounting how Yuvraj set a 5 am wake-up routine. This strict mentorship mirrored Yuvraj’s approach with Shubman Gill, turning raw talent into disciplined stars.
Yograj compared Abhishek to a diamond, shaped by Yuvraj’s guidance, becoming a “Kohinoor” instead of being lost to negative influences. Abhishek’s BCCI contract symbolises this transformation, highlighting him as a rising star.
