Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec, who clinched a silver medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 10m air pistol competition, has become well-known for his laid-back appearance during competitions.
Dikec, who competes without the usual protective gear like earplugs or lenses, recently invited billionaire Elon Musk to visit Istanbul, which sparked considerable attention online.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Dikec playfully asked Musk, “Hi Elon, do you think future robots can win medals at the Olympics with their hands in their pockets?” He proposed discussing this topic in Istanbul, describing it as the “cultural capital that unites continents.” Alongside his message, Dikec posted a photo of himself from the Olympics.
Musk responded with humour, saying, “Robots will hit the centre of the bullseye every time,” and added, “I do look forward to visiting Istanbul. It is one of the great cities of the world.” This exchange has attracted over six million views.
Social media users joined in the fun, with comments ranging from jokes about a “Robot Olympics” to admiration for Dikec’s unique presence and style. One user highlighted, “Robots could never have this amount of aura.”
Another suggested Dikec could train robots, hinting at a fascinating conversation between him and Musk about the future of technology in sports.
Yusuf Dikec, a seasoned competitor in four Olympic Games in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020, started his competitive shooting career in 2001.
Yusuf Dikec, employed as a non-commissioned officer with the Gendarmerie General Command, is known for his exceptional shooting technique, often leaving referees astonished by his ability to shoot with both eyes open. In a recent interview, Dikec shared, “This year we prepared a lot and worked a lot… this success belongs to all of Turkey,” emphasizing the hard work behind his Olympic success.
