Young Scooter, an Atlanta-based rapper born Kenneth Edward Bailey, tragically passed away at the age of 39 following a freak accident on March 28, 2025, during a police confrontation in Southeast Atlanta, leaving fans and the music industry in shock.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunfire and a woman being forcibly dragged back into a home. When police arrived, they encountered resistance. A man briefly opened the door before slamming it shut, while two others attempted to flee from the residence’s rear.

Lieutenant Andrew Smith of the Atlanta Police Department explained, “One male returned inside the house. The other, later identified as Bailey, jumped two fences while escaping. Officers found him injured on the other side.” Young Scooter had suffered a severe leg injury during his escape attempt.

Emergency services rushed him to Grady Marcus Trauma Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Contrary to early rumours, Lt. Smith clarified that police did not shoot Bailey. “The injury occurred as he fled, not from officer actions,” Smith emphasized during a Friday press conference.

The Atlanta Medical Examiner’s Office is still investigating the exact cause of Young Scooter’s death.

Born in South Carolina, Bailey relocated to Atlanta at age 9. He burst onto the music scene in 2012 with his regional hit “Colombia,” which earned him a deal with Future’s Freebandz label. His gritty lyrics and unique style quickly garnered a loyal following.

Young Scooter’s career soared with collaborations alongside hip-hop heavyweights like Future, Young Thug, and Juice WRLD. Tracks like “DI$Function” and “Jet Lag” solidified his place on the Billboard charts, cementing his influence in the rap world.

News of Young Scooter’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief online. His contributions to trap music and collaborations with Atlanta’s finest leave a lasting legacy. As the investigation continues, fans await further details surrounding this heartbreaking loss.
