Atlanta’s hip-hop community is mourning the loss of rapper Young Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey, who passed away at 39 on what should have been a day of celebration for his birthday.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and claimed a woman was dragged back into a residence. According to Lt. Andrew Smith of the Atlanta Police Department, officers knocked on the door, but a man, later identified as Scooter, opened it briefly before slamming it shut. As police secured the area, two men bolted from the rear of the house.

One suspect eventually returned, but Scooter’s escape took a deadly turn. Authorities found him on the other side of a fence with a severe leg injury sustained after leaping over two barriers in his attempt to flee. Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital, but despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Lt. Smith clarified that Scooter’s wounds were not inflicted by police but resulted from his desperate escape.
