‘Wrong No’ — the right kind of cinema

Lahore: Yasir Nawaz’s ‘Wrong No’ is the right kind of film coming out from the long evolving process of the Pakistani film industry, which is now headed towards a positive direction.

Danish Taimoor is sporting a double role in the film, which is of a romantic/comedy genre.

The film features Taimoor, Janita Asma, Sohai Ali Abro, Nida Yasir, Nadeem Jaffri, Danish Nawaz and Shafqat Cheema in lead roles. At the Lahore premiere of the eagerly-awaited ‘Wrong No’, Pakistani film industry’s bigwigs were seen in full attendance to support the effort by ARY and YNH films who directed and produced the film.

First of all, there is no love triangle between Taimoor, Asma and Sohai as Taimoor plays a double role in the film.

The first role he essays is that of Salu, who is the son of a butcher Haji Abba. The father wants his son to sit in the butcher shop and run his business. But Salu aims and dreams always to become an actor and be in the limelight. The other role he plays is that of Shehryar, who is the son of a rich business tycoon.

The glorious Javed Sheikh plays the butcher – a role that would be long remembered in the memories of the film viewers. Haji Abba and his family members surely grab the attention of the viewer when a scene taking place at Haji Abba’s home begins. Sheikh’s commitment to his work can be seen in one dialogue only “Haji tou ab mar key hi uthay ga”. ‘Wrong No’ also highlights how the lower class wants their next generation to get government jobs and pave the way for themselves for a chance to live a luxurious life.

The spectacular Asma has also acted well in her role of an ‘office girl’ who does not even have time for a romance or a love life. She has left the decision to choose a man for her to her grandfather. On the other hand, Sohai Ali Abro in the film acts as a girl who falls in love with her neighbour. She tries until her last breath to get Taimoor’s attention.

The songs of the film include “Selfiyan” sung by Elia Waqar is already a hit while the other songs of the film are nothing short of a breath of fresh air. “Nachay Mann” by Sara Rizvi and Nabeel Shaukat Ali, “Koi Bata De” by Faisal Khan, “Dheeray Dheeray” by Sara Raza and Nabeel Shaukat Ali and “Bhaag Ja” by Asrar are fabulous tracks.

No one can beat Shafqat Cheema who is surely the baddie of the Pakistani film industry. He plays the villain who shares rivalry with another gang. Both want to abduct Shehryar for ransom. Qavi Khan although has a cameo in the film, but sets the tone and plot for the remaining story when he assigns Asma to supervise his son and receive him at the Karachi airport.

All goes wrong as both the gangs’ plan fails.

‘Wrong No’ is a guaranteed laughter ride. Do watch the film on Eidul Fitr.
