Social media rumours recently suggested that winter vacations in Punjab would be extended due to colder temperatures, but the Punjab government has officially refuted these claims.
Contrary to what is circulating online, no announcement has been made about extending the winter holidays for schools in Lahore or other cities across the province.
Schools throughout Punjab will reopen on Monday, January 13, following a 23-day winter break from December 23 to January 10. The provincial Department of Special Education has clarified that, despite the ongoing cold wave, school hours will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Fridays.

The weather forecast indicates cold and partly cloudy conditions across most parts of the province, with potential light rain and snow in the Murree, Galliyat, and nearby areas. Moreover, the Met Office has warned about rain, wind, and thunderstorms in isolated areas, including Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, and Gujranwala. Despite these conditions, schools will maintain their scheduled reopening, thus dispelling further speculation about prolonged winter vacations.
In contrast, the Education Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has extended winter vacations for all educational institutions across that province by an additional week due to severe cold weather conditions. This decision was made to ensure the health and safety of students who face freezing temperatures during their morning commutes to school.
