WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta Platforms Inc., is actively working on a new feature enabling users to link their iPad as a companion device.
A report from WaBetaInfo, a reliable online platform for tracking upcoming WhatsApp updates.
The forthcoming update, internally referred to as “iPad support — linked device,” is currently in its development phase and is not yet available for beta testers. However, once this feature is fully developed and deployed, users can connect their iPad to their WhatsApp accounts previously linked to an Android device.
Earlier, WhatsApp had unveiled a feature enabling users to link an additional iOS device to an existing WhatsApp account. This feature respects user privacy and security, linking up to four devices to a single account.
In its most recent update, the instant messaging app is working towards extending this feature to include compatibility with iPads as a new linked device. This addition indicates that iPads will soon be among the list of devices linked to a user’s WhatsApp account, with the user having an Android device as their primary device.
As illustrated in a recent screenshot from WaBetaInfo, the upcoming feature would allow an iPad to be linked to a user’s WhatsApp account on an Android device.
Following the recent release of the companion mode on iOS, which is gradually being made available to certain accounts, WaBetaInfo speculates that the next logical step would be launching an iPad-compatible application.
The fact that WhatsApp’s development team is actively working on enabling the application to recognize an iPad as a linked device suggests that the app, complete with this new feature, could soon be released to the public. This would mark a significant milestone in WhatsApp’s journey towards facilitating multi-device usage for its user.
