Weekly inflation increases by approx. 1.4%

Weekly inflation for combined income group rose by 1.38 per cent for the week ending on July 28 compared to the previous week.

The weekly inflation measured through the sensitive price index (SPI) witnessed the highest increase in the last one month because of hike in prices of some commodities, suggested data issued by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS)  yesterday.

Ahead of Eidul Fitr, prices of essential food items rose substantially compared to the previous week.

The impact of prices on various income groups also witnessed variations during the week under review.

For the lowest income group earning up to Rs8,000, the SPI declined by 0.65pc over the previous week, while inflation for the top income group (earning Rs35,000 and above) was up 0.15pc.

However, as compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group increased by 9.06pc during the week under review.

As per the statistics, the food items which registered increase in their prices are tomatoes, 94pc; chicken, 7.65pc; onions, 6.58pc; garlic, 6.42pc; potatoes, 3.66pc; eggs, 2pc; bananas, 1.05pc; mash pulse (washed), 0.98pc; beef (with bones), 0.58pc, mutton, 0.53pc; milk fresh, 0.40pc; wheat flour, 0.26pc; red chillies, 0.23pc; pulse gram, 0.19pc; wheat, 0.16pc; and sugar,0.02pc.

In non-food items, price of LPG 11kg cylinder rose by 0.48pc.
