Waqar Younis is set to be appointed as the new Chief Cricket Officer (CCO) of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Initially joining as a temporary advisor to the chairman on cricket affairs, Younis’s role is poised for expansion.
An informed source stated that Younis, the former captain, is currently in a paid role, not merely advisory. “He is officially an advisor for now, but the board plans to establish a position akin to Rob Key’s at the English cricket board, pending approval from the Board of Governors,” the source explained.
Once appointed, Younis will join the national selection committee and engage with matters concerning central contracts.
Younis desires to familiarize himself with his new responsibilities before fully stepping into the role. He has been actively involved with various departments, understanding international and domestic cricket schedules and strategic planning for upcoming games and tests.
The renowned fast bowler, who has multiple stints as Pakistan’s bowling and head coach, agreed to this role after moving from Australia to Lahore with his family.
