Victoria’s Secret unveiled its “You Are An Icon” campaign in a bold step towards inclusivity and empowerment. Embracing diversity, this campaign shines a spotlight on the remarkable Victoria Volkova, a transgender woman from Mexico.
From Mexico to Global Recognition: Victoria Volkova’s Journey
Aligning with its mission of celebrating iconic women, Victoria’s Secret is sharing videos featuring inspirational Mexican women who exude confidence self-love and promote messages of diversity. The lineup began with renowned actress Yalitza Aparicio, followed by model Mariana Zaragoza, and now introduces the activist and actress Victoria Volkova.

Volkova’s featured video carries a powerful message: “Being truly iconic comes from embracing who you are.” The footage showcases Volkova proudly showcasing her identity, adorned in Victoria’s Secret’s black lingerie ensemble, complete with a garter belt, bra, panties, stockings, and slippers.
Breaking Barriers: Victoria Volkova’s Noteworthy Achievements
Before this campaign, Victoria Volkova made history in the November-December 2020 edition of Playboy Mexico. She became the first transsexual woman to grace the magazine’s cover, achieving a personal dream. Hailing from Mexico City, she had aspired for years to join the ranks of the iconic bunnies gracing the magazine.
Rather than viewing her achievement through a narrow lens, Volkova perceives her participation as a stepping stone in promoting diversity within Mexico and globally.
Volkova isn’t alone in this journey. Over the years, other transgender women have been featured in the brand’s international editions. In 1981, an English model, Caroline “Tula” Cossey, challenged conventional beauty standards. Ines Rau, a French model, followed in 2017, and a year later, Giuliana Farfalla was invited by the German edition.
