On April 28, 2025, fourteen-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player to score a century in men’s T20 cricket during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Representing the Rajasthan Royals, the Bihar prodigy hit 100 runs off 35 balls, marking the second-fastest century in IPL history. This explosive performance led to an eight-wicket victory over the Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Suryavanshi’s blistering knock, featuring seven fours and 11 sixes, included the fastest IPL fifty (17 balls) and a 166-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal (70* off 40). Chasing 210, Rajasthan sealed the win in 15.5 overs, ending a five-match losing streak and boosting their playoff hopes.

Gujarat’s Shubman Gill (84) and Jos Buttler (50*) set a competitive total, but Suryavanshi’s onslaught, including 28 runs off Ishant Sharma’s over and 30 off Karim Janat’s, proved decisive.

Suryavanshi, who turned 14 in March, signed with a team for £103,789 last year and has experienced a meteoric rise in his cricket career. He debuted in first-class cricket for Bihar at 12 and scored a century for the India U-19 team against Australia in 2024. His fearless performance in the IPL, highlighted by hitting a six off his first ball earlier in April, further cements his status as a rising star.
