The United States won an extraordinary victory against Pakistan in a Super Over during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 at Grand Prairie Stadium.
In the decisive over, the USA tallied 18 runs, including 7 extra runs from three wide balls by Mohammad Amir. Despite a valiant effort, Pakistan scored only 13 runs in response, with Shadab Khan stepping in after Iftikhar Ahmed was caught out.
The regular match concluded dramatically as Nitish Kumar’s last-ball boundary against Haris Rauf secured a tie. The American chase began solidly with a 36-run stand between Steven Taylor and Monank Patel. Although Naseem Shah dismissed Taylor, Andries Gous and Patel advanced the score significantly. Despite a middle-innings surge from Patel, who scored a quick 50, and Gous’s 35, Pakistan’s bowlers, led by Rauf, kept the game tight.
Pakistan’s innings started poorly, struggling to 26-3, but Shadab Khan’s explosive 40 from 25 balls and Babar Azam’s steady 44 helped set a challenging target of 159-7. The USA’s Nosthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar were notable with the ball, taking three and two wickets, respectively.
