The United States secured a 2-0 victory over Mexico, maintaining its unique status as the only CONCACAF team to win a Nations League title.
Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna scored the goals. Adams, returning to start after a lengthy absence, opened the scoring with a remarkable 35-yard strike in the 45th minute, assisted by Weston McKennie. His effort narrowly evaded Mexico’s goalkeeper, Guillermo Ochoa.
Reyna widened the gap with a 63rd-minute goal following his notable two-assist performance against Jamaica in the semifinals.
This win continued the United States’ seven-match unbeaten run against Mexico since September 2019, which includes five wins.
The match faced interruptions from homophobic chants by the largely pro-Mexican crowd, prompting Canadian referee Drew Fischer to halt the game twice. After an initial stoppage in the 88th minute and a subsequent brief pause, the game was again paused during stoppage time before resuming.
A similar issue marred last year’s Nations League semifinal in Las Vegas, which ended prematurely due to chants from Mexican fans, a recurring problem targeting opposing goalkeepers.
