An ordinary day took an extraordinary turn for one man when he forgot his lunch. A call from his wife led him to a grocery store and a $3 million lottery win.
According to Missouri Lottery officials, the man received a call from his wife reminding him he had left his lunch at home. Opting not to turn back, he stopped at a grocery store to pick something up and decided to try his luck with a “Millionaire Bucks” Scratchers game.
“I usually don’t buy the $30 tickets, but I had $60 from previous winnings, so I thought, ‘Why not?'” the winner recounted.
After purchasing the ticket at Schnucks on 3900 Vogel Road in Arnold, he scanned it and was shocked to see a message indicating he was a lottery winner. “I was completely surprised! At first, I didn’t think I had won anything significant,” he said. But then he saw the zeroes adding up on the screen.
He immediately phoned his wife to tell her about the windfall. “I enjoy playing jokes,” he said, laughing. “She needed a bit of convincing to believe it was true!”
In fiscal year 2024, Jefferson County awarded over $40.6 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, with local retailers earning more than $3.9 million in commissions and bonuses. Additionally, lottery proceeds contributed more than $2.7 million to educational programs within the county.
