After two days of intense verbal barbs, uneasy calm prevailed today between MQM and PTI after Altaf Hussain’s apologized last evening for his remarks he made against PTI’s women activists.
Both the parties silenced their guns by calling off countrywide protests scheduled for today.
“Shireen Mazari, I am sorry…If I have offended them inadvertently, I apologize to all the virtuous female participants of the PTI’s Islamabad sit-in,” Hussain said live on television.
PTI took a strong exception to the MQM leader’s derogatory remarks about the party’s Central Secretary Information, Shireen Mazari that unleashed a war of words between the two parties. In a prompt response, Imran Khan made a counter-attack and announced (his by now trademark) countrywide protests.
On the other hand, MQM workers were on roads in Karachi to condemn Khan’s statements and show solidarity with their London-based leader.
“Those who bomb the mosques are Khan’s brothers. Alluding to the Indian actor Aamir Khan’s popular satirical movie “PK” The MQM’s Coordination Committee said that He (Imran Khan) is a ‘wrong number.’ The people will not let the PTI hold even a corner-meeting in Karachi. And we will compel Khan to own his daughter from his erstwhile girlfriend Sita White” the MQM leaders boomed while speaking to an anti-PTI rally in Karachi.
But the situation witnessed a twist when Altaf Hussain took a ‘strong exception’ to his party leaders’ ‘going overboard’ while giving a broadside to PTI and its leadership.
“Whenever Khan comes to Karachi, we will accord him a warm welcome,” sources quoted the MQM leader as saying.
