Tyler Robinson, 22, allegedly shot and killed conservative influencer Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University from a campus rooftop, has shocked the nation and raised concerns about political violence. Police arrested him late Thursday, and investigators are still trying to find out why the shooting happened.
Tyler Robinson lives in Washington, Utah. He was once praised for his academic achievements. In 2021, he graduated from Pine View High School in St. George. He earned a four-year scholarship to Utah State University after scoring in the top 1% on the ACT exam. His mother proudly shared a video of him reading his scholarship letter on social media.
Tyler’s story of academic success contrasts sharply with recent allegations against him. He attended Utah State for one semester but later left. Currently, he is a third-year student in an electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College.

The Tyler Robinson shooting occurred during Charlie Kirk’s appearance at Utah Valley University. Robinson allegedly fired a rifle from a rooftop, killing Kirk. Authorities found bullet casings with anti-fascist messages near the suspected murder weapon. A family friend tipped off police after Robinson reportedly confessed or implied his involvement. He was arrested and taken to the Utah County jail for aggravated murder. Officials have not filed formal charges yet.

Investigators have not pinpointed a clear motive. Utah Governor Spencer Cox said a family member reported that before the Tyler Robinson shooting, Robinson had recently discussed Kirk’s campus visit and expressed dislike for his views. The family member also noted Robinson’s growing interest in politics. Despite this, Robinson was not politically active, listed as an “inactive” voter who did not participate in the 2024 election. Such details continue to leave the motive for the Tyler Robinson shooting unclear.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox states that authorities are confident, based on the evidence, that Tyler Robinson acted entirely alone.
