U.S. President Donald Trump said he is disappointed in Russian President Vladimir Putin. He spoke on The Scott Jennings Radio Show. He did not share details but said his team plans steps to reduce deaths in the war in Ukraine. “I am very disappointed in President Putin, and we will be doing something to help people live,” he said.
Trump met Putin in Alaska in mid‑August 2025. He also hosted Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European and NATO leaders at the White House. Trump expected Zelenskyy and Putin to meet directly, followed by a three‑way talk with him. Zelenskyy said Russia is blocking such a meeting. Russia says the agenda is not ready.

Trump promised Zelenskyy the U.S. will back Ukraine’s security in any peace deal. He also warned he could add sanctions on Russia if talks stall. Russia currently controls about 20% of Ukraine. Trump suggested a “land swap” could help reach a deal. Ukraine rejects giving up land by law. Still, some in Ukraine admit they may have to accept some losses.
Asked about closer Russia‑China ties, Trump said, “I am not concerned at all.” He said the U.S. military is very strong: “We have the strongest military in the world, by far. They would never use their military on us.” China’s President Xi Jinping recently hosted Putin and called him an “old friend.” Xi also met India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. India faces U.S. scrutiny for buying Russian oil.
Trump’s comments show his focus on ending the war in Ukraine, a key campaign promise. His administration faces pressure to show progress during ongoing fighting and tough talks. A direct meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy is still uncertain. Even so, Trump’s role shows the U.S. remains engaged.
