Donald Trump criticized Joe Biden for not attending the coronation of King Charles III, calling the decision “disrespectful” during an interview.
King Charles III invited President Biden to visit the United Kingdom for the coronation this week. While the first lady, Jill Biden, is expected to attend the event, the President will not be present.
In an interview with Nigel Farage, Trump suggested that Biden’s absence was due to a lack of physical stamina. However, he argued that Biden should have attended the coronation as a representative of the United States, despite any potential physical challenges.
However, it is important to note that no US president has ever attended the coronation of a British monarch. In 1953, President Dwight Eisenhower sent a delegation to Queen Elizabeth’s coronation, but he did not attend himself.
Furthermore, no evidence suggests that King Charles III considers Biden’s absence disrespectful. On the contrary, the White House has confirmed an upcoming state visit to the United Kingdom, and Biden has expressed gratitude for the invitation from King Charles III.
Despite questions surrounding his age and stamina, Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 US presidential election and has since made multiple international trips, including a visit to Ireland just last month. However, as he runs for re-election, some continue to question his ability to serve a full term. If he were to serve two full terms, he would retire at 86.
Trump, who took office in 2017, was also one of the oldest presidents ever elected, prompting calls for new leadership and a younger generation of politicians to take charge of the two main US political parties
