US President Donald Trump recently drew a stark comparison between the appearance of Israeli hostages released by Hamas and Holocaust survivors, highlighting his frustration with the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to the Super Bowl, Trump remarked on the hostages’ emaciated state, noting they looked like they “haven’t had a meal in a month.” His comments underscored a growing impatience with the situation, though he did not specify the steps he might take.

“They literally look like the old pictures of Holocaust survivors. I don’t know how long we’re gonna take that.”

The release of three Israeli hostages—Eli Sharabi, Or Levi, and Ohad Ben Ami—by Hamas after nearly 500 days of captivity sent shockwaves around the world due to their frail condition. This event has intensified discussions on the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, which aims to secure the release of all remaining hostages.

Trump said he was disturbed by the emaciated condition of Israeli hostages released this weekend and suggested the US was running out of patience with the war in the Gaza Strip https://t.co/yyBe456Nms

Trump’s recent statements also revisit his controversial proposal to remove Palestinians from Gaza and to have the US, potentially in collaboration with other Middle Eastern states, take over and redevelop the region. This has stirred significant diplomatic tensions and drawn criticism, even as some, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have shown support, calling the idea “revolutionary.”

As the international community watches closely, the US President’s strategies and their potential impact on the fragile geopolitical landscape continue to unfold, with the future of the Gaza Strip hanging in the balance.
