US President Donald Trump made a sarcastic comment after fans booed him during the US Open final. He said, “The fans were great,” even though many showed anger. The boos came because Trump’s presence delayed the exciting match between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. His arrival at Arthur Ashe Stadium caused a nearly 50-minute delay due to security.
Trump appeared on the big screen during the national anthem before the final started. He stood and saluted as the crowd cheered and applauded, but soon the boos grew louder. Trump smiled back. After the first set, he appeared again on the screen, which led to longer boos. On TV, the fans’ reaction was mostly quiet.
Trump praised both players’ strong play. He told reporters, “I loved it. Both players have amazing talent. They hit the ball harder than I have ever seen before. Incredible skill. The fans were very nice. I didn’t know what to expect. Usually, I’d say the crowd would be more ‘progressive,’ but the fans were great.”

Trump’s visit reminded many of his last trip to the US Open. In 2015, he was also booed after watching a match between Serena and Venus Williams. Videos on social media showed large crowds and long lines. Despite the delay, many seats were still empty, and some fans missed the start.

Former tennis star Martina Navratilova criticised Trump on social media. She wrote, “It’s 2 p.m., more than half the seats are empty, and there is only one entrance. Thanks, Trump!”
In the final match, Alcaraz played very well. He defeated his top rival 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The match lasted 2 hours and 42 minutes. At 22 years old, Alcaraz’s win in New York made him the new world number one. This ended Sinner’s 65-week time at the top ranking.
