At least 14 people were killed and more than 39 injured when two trains collided with each other in Karachi on Thursday morning.

According to Pakistan Railways, rescue sources, Fareed Express rammed into Zakaria Express near Landhi area of Karachi, leaving at least 14 people dead and over 30 wounded.

Several people are still trapped inside the two destroyed trains.

Both trains were reaching Karachi from Punjab.

Rescue teams have reached the scene and the injured persons are being shifted to hospitals in the metropolis.

The critical are being admitted to a nearby medical facility whereas those victims, who require first aid, are being shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. An emergency has been imposed in Jinnah Hospital.

The rescue teams are also facing problems in fulfilling their duties as large number of people had gathered at the site. Police had lodged a baton charge to disperse the crowd.

DS Railways said that the cause of the incident will be determined after the rescue work is complete.
