In a distressing incident on Tuesday in the Harbanspura area, a young policewoman was reportedly tortured and shot dead by a male colleague, with bystanders witnessing the event.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Constable Soman of the Lahore police anti-riot wing, sustained three fatal bullet wounds.
According to a police official, the alleged perpetrator, also a police officer named Farooq, fled the scene immediately following the incident.
Witnesses reported to the police that the assailant, dressed in plain clothes, initially assaulted the woman, also out of uniform, on a greenbelt near Canal Park. Locals and passersby managed to subdue him briefly.
Initially, witnesses refrained from involving the police, believing the conflict was a personal matter between the two individuals.
The situation escalated when Farooq fired shots into the air, dispersing the gathered crowd. He then shot Constable Soman three times and escaped, leaving her dead at the scene.
Upon receiving news of the crime, police and forensic teams secured the area for evidence collection.
The police official stated that a service card found in the victim’s purse confirmed her identity as a constable.
The police have yet to determine a motive for the murder and are actively pursuing the suspect to bring him to justice.
