In a TikTok ghost-hunting trend, a 22-year-old French woman was discovered dead in an abandoned church in Italy’s Aosta Valley.
La Salle police disclosed that the woman had told her family of her intention to explore a reputedly haunted site, suggesting she was engaging in a viral social media challenge at the time of her demise.
Investigations are now underway to uncover the circumstances of her death, with theories ranging from a social media stunt gone awry to more sinister possibilities such as consensual homicide or ritualistic killing. Authorities are also examining potential connections to two unsolved disappearances in the region.
A witness account added an eerie layer to the case, describing the woman and a male companion near the church, adorned in vampire-like attire. The witness characterized the woman as notably pale and gaunt, likening her to a “walking corpse.”
An autopsy confirmed that the woman succumbed to blood loss from stab wounds inflicted by a camping knife, alongside post-mortem gunshot injuries. The investigation also noted an unusual aspect: the deliberate removal of some blood from the scene, although there were no indications of a physical altercation.
Police have collected several items from the scene, including a package of pink marshmallows, local groceries, and the victim’s clothing. However, the absence of personal identification and a mobile phone poses additional challenges to the case’s resolution.
