Slovenian cyclist Primoz Roglic clinched the Tour of Catalonia on Sunday, March 30, 2025, with a commanding solo victory in Stage 7 in Barcelona.
The 35-year-old Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe rider, who also won in 2023, overcame a one-second deficit to home favourite Juan Ayuso, finishing 28 seconds ahead. Spaniard Enric Mas took third overall, trailing Roglic by 58 seconds.
Roglic’s triumph capped a thrilling week. “It was beautiful—I had great fun,” he said. “My legs were ready, and I enjoyed it all.” The four-time Vuelta a España champion now sets his sights on the Giro d’Italia after a brief break. He entered as a favourite, especially with 2024 winner Tadej Pogacar opting out.

Stage 7 Decides the Race
Due to fierce winds, Saturday’s Stage 6 was shortened to 25 kilometres, cancelling a key mountain test. Sunday’s 88.2-kilometre finale, looping through Barcelona, offered perfect conditions. “I hoped for a big mountain stage yesterday, but it came down to today,” Roglic noted. “The team worked well, and we raced strong.”
Roglic grabbed the lead in the first intermediate sprint, edging Ayuso by a second. Ayuso fought back in the second sprint, reclaiming a one-second advantage. With 20 kilometres left, Roglic surged ahead, leaving Ayuso behind. “After the sprint, I knew I had to act to win,” he explained. Laurens De Plus and Lennert Van Eetvelt trailed by seconds, but Roglic crossed the line solo, arms raised. De Plus took second on the stage, 14 seconds back, outsprinting Van Eetvelt.
Roglic’s strategic breakaway and relentless pace sealed his second Tour of Catalonia title. His victory underscores his form as he builds toward bigger goals. He celebrates a week of joy and a well-earned rest for now.
