Tinder launched its latest feature, The Game Game, on April 1. This feature innovatively combines AI technology with dating.
Powered by OpenAI’s GPT-40, this app allows users to practice flirting with a chatbot in playful scenarios, such as chatting someone up at baggage claim. Players earn flame icons based on their charm.
Reactions online are split. Some X users cheered the innovation, while others baulked. “AI needs to stop,” one wrote. Another quipped, “Put the AI down!” Memes flooded social media, reflecting intrigue and unease about tech’s role in romance.

A Playful Tool, Not a Replacement
Tinder insists it’s not about replacing real sparks. At the launch, relationship expert Devyn Simone called it “over-the-top fun, like improv.” She explained, “The AI rewards warmth and curiosity—listening, asking questions, not slick lines.” It’s meant to boost confidence, not mimic real chats.

A Tinder spokesperson reinforced this in an email. “Don’t take it too seriously,” they said, noting built-in time limits to keep users focused on actual dating. The goal? Encourage real-life connections, not virtual stand-ins.

Tinder isn’t the only dating app exploring AI features; Grindr and Hinge are also developing similar innovations. Additionally, apps like WingAI and Rizz provide tools to assist with flirting. The Game Game can potentially redefine digital courtship, though it could also be a quirky experiment. Regardless, AI is changing the way we swipe and connect with others.
