As the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup approaches, teams from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Ireland have raised concerns about logistical arrangements and travel fatigue.
During their journey from Florida to New York, the Sri Lankan and Irish teams experienced a frustrating seven-hour delay without receiving any updates. Originally scheduled to arrive in New York at 8 PM on a Friday, they only reached their destination at 5 AM the following Saturday.
Compounding the issue, the Sri Lankan team’s hotel is an hour and a half away from the venue. This distance and the resulting delay forced them to cancel a scheduled practice session due to exhaustion.
Moreover, there are grievances regarding the scheduling and accommodation disparities between teams. The Indian team has been lodged in hotels close to their playing venues. In contrast, the Sri Lankan and South African teams must travel to Dallas immediately following their first match, with no rest days provided in their tight schedule.
In response to these challenges, the teams from South Africa, Sri Lanka, and Ireland have lodged formal complaints with the ICC, highlighting what they perceive as preferential treatment towards India and pointing out the logistical and infrastructural issues they have encountered.
