An Islamabad court remanded three FRB’s suspected officials in the income tax data leak of retired Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa.
On Nov. 21, the federal government launched an investigation into the leak of Gen. Bajwa’s family’s tax information.
The Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) produced Shahzad Niaz, Arshad Ali Qureshi, and Mohammad Adeel Ashraf before Judicial Magistrate Omer Shabbir. The prosecutor alleged that Qureshi had abandoned his mobile phone on Nov. 23, days following the release of government employees’ tax data on FactFocus. At the same time, Shahzad Niaz and Ashraf are alleged to extract and access tax data.
Prosecutors confirmed the suspects’ mobile phones for forensic investigation to retrieve data.
According to an investigation, Niaz “illegally facilitated Qureshi” by handing him taxpayers’ records on cash payments since 2018. Whereas Sajid Aziz sent the money to Qureshi.
The FIA demanded physical remand of the defendants for five days to collect information on Sajid Aziz and bank and Easypaisa data.
The judge remarked that denying physical remand would end the probe.
The FIA has three suspects until Dec. 24.
