Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stated that no significant modifications were being made to the Pakistan Army Act (PAA) of 1952.

After a Daily Down claim, the Pakistan Army Act (PAA) legislation of 1952 would undergo significant alterations.

The newspaper reported that the government “appears” to be contemplating altering the army legislation to enable the appointing authority of the prime minister to keep “any candidate with a simple notice, as opposed to a convoluted constitutional process.”

In a Twitter message, Khawaja Asif said, “Media hysteria about adjustments to the Pakistan Army Act is unwarranted; the government is not considering any significant amendments to this Act. SCP had ordered a review of pertinent PAA sections in its CP 39/2019 ruling, which will be met in due time.”

Media hype over amendments in Pakistan Army Act is uncalled for. Government is not considering any major changes in the said Act. SCP had demanded review of relevant clauses of PAA in its judgement in CP 39/2019 which shall be complied with in due course.
