Rumours are swirling about Taylor Swift’s latest album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” with many fans suggesting that some tracks draw on her fleeting 1975 romance with Matty Healy.
Family members close to Healy have shared insights, hinting at their private responses to the album. Debbie Dedes, Healy’s aunt, spoke to The Daily Mail about the speculation. “He won’t be surprised by the song. They both know the reality of their relationship,” Dedes remarked.
She noted Swift’s tendency to use her personal life as song material, expressing that Healy wouldn’t find the song shocking. “He’s quite content in his new relationship, so that’s his focus now,” she added.
Tracks suspected to be about Healy include “The Tortured Poets Department,” “Guilty as Sin?,” and “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” with particularly telling lyrics in the latter: “Was any of it true? / Gazing at me starry-eyed / In your Jehovah’s Witness suit / Who the f— was that guy?” sings Swift.
The allusions to Healy are unmistakable. Healy, often seen in a black suit and known for his comments about public speculation over his stature, dated Swift briefly from May to June 2023. Their relationship was intensely scrutinised, exacerbated by Healy’s controversial statements on various issues.
A source told Entertainment Tonight, “They are both extremely busy and realized they’re incompatible with each other.” Swift has been linked with NFL star Travis Kelce post-split, while Healy has moved on with model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel.
Swift’s album traverses her short-lived liaison with Healy, her relationships with Kelce, her ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, and her well-known feud with Kim Kardashian, highlighting her knack for transforming personal experiences into her music.
