The Taylor Swift Opalite music video surprised fans with a subtle but meaningful cameo that quickly went viral. While promoting The Life of a Showgirl on The Graham Norton Show in October, Swift was already developing the creative idea behind Opalite.
She later explained that the concept came together after the show, when she pitched the idea to her fellow guests. According to Swift, everyone agreed to take part in the video.
When Swift shared behind-the-scenes images on Instagram following the Opalite release, fans quickly noticed something missing. Although she mentioned that all the guests supported the concept, Cillian Murphy did not appear in the photos.
Swifties began questioning his absence, especially given past online speculation about tension between the two during their joint appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Cillian Murphy’s Role in Opalite
The mystery was soon solved inside the video itself. Murphy appears in the opening moments of Opalite as part of a fictional advertisement displayed on a billboard.
He also provides the voiceover for the magical product called “Opalite.” The understated cameo confirmed that Murphy was involved, just not in a traditional on-screen role.

Murphy’s appearance quickly spread across social media, with fans praising the clever execution. The cameo effectively debunked rumours that Swift and Murphy had clashed during their October interview.
Online speculation had suggested awkwardness between the two, but the music video made it clear there was no bad blood.
The Opalite music video features appearances from all of Swift’s fellow guests from the episode. These include Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, Domhnall Gleeson, Lewis Capaldi, Graham Norton, and Cillian Murphy. By including the entire group, Swift reinforced the project’s collaborative and playful nature.
