Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, has designated Karachi as the venue for this year’s Ashara Mubaraka, the community’s 10-day Muharram congregations.
The joint invitation extended by the Pakistani government and the Dawoodi Bohra community earlier in the month invited Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin to lead the sermons during this holy period.
Ashara Mubaraka is a deeply sacred time for the Dawoodi Bohra community. It is dedicated to commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Husain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, along with his family and companions. The observance of these days reaffirms the community’s commitment to the values of justice, truth, and humanity, which Imam Husain exemplified through his sacrifice in the Battle of Karbala.
According to Shabbir Harianawala, a coordinator from the Karachi Dawoodi Bohra community, while talking to local news channel Geo News, extensive preparations are underway to accommodate over 80,000 participants expected from Pakistan and overseas. The community collaborates closely with governmental authorities and local organizations to ensure guests’ seamless and enriching experience. Harianawala emphasized the community’s goal to create a welcoming and comfortable environment for all attendees during their stay in Karachi.
The last occasion Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin presided over the Muharram congregations in Karachi was in 2017, making this year’s event particularly significant. The extensive arrangements reflect the importance of Ashara Mubaraka in the Dawoodi Bohra faith and highlight the community’s efforts to honour their traditions and history through communal worship and reflection.
