Sydney Sweeney, celebrated for her role in “Euphoria,” is tackling the challenging role of Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic about the iconic boxer.
Martin, a trailblazer in boxing, achieved an impressive record of 49 wins and 7 losses and was the first woman inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame.
Sweeney underwent a dramatic transformation for the role, trading her blonde hair for a shorter, darker look to resemble Martin more closely. She also increased her muscle mass to mirror a professional boxer’s physique. Beyond the physical changes, Sweeney embraced the emotional depth of Martin’s story, which she described as one of her most transformative experiences.
Sweeney expressed her profound connection to the project in a heartfelt Instagram post: “We have wrapped filming Christy Martin’s story, and it has been one of my life’s most emotional, transformative experiences. Christy’s journey is deeply inspiring, and having her by my side during this process was surreal.”
She shared moving moments from the set, including seeing Martin cheer on the team, which brought her to tears. She added, “This story is so much bigger than just a film. It’s a testament to resilience, survival, and the strength to keep fighting.”
Christy Martin has praised Sweeney, saying, “Sydney, you are a terrific person. I smile every time I think of your celebrations in the ring. I believe you will change/help many lives with this performance. I am so honoured that you chose to portray my story.”
