An explosion, suspected to be a suicide attack, followed by firing resulted in the unfortunate loss of a police officer’s life and left eight others, including several police officers, wounded on Thursday in the Bara Bazar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The initial incident was promptly followed by a round of intense gunfire in the vicinity of the Bara market police station.
In the immediate aftermath of the tragic event, the injured police officers were promptly transported to the CMH for medical attention. As a security precaution, the market area was swiftly shut down, according to sources from the rescue operation. A quick response forces team arrived at the scene promptly, responding to the initial explosion and gunfire.
The uptick in Terrorist Activity In KP
The worrying event aligns with the recent increase in terrorist activities throughout Pakistan, focusing on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan regions. The intensification of such activities coincides with the November expiration of a ceasefire agreement between the government and the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
In a similar attack earlier this week in Peshawar’s Hayatabad neighborhood, a potent blast targeted a convoy of the paramilitary Frontier Corps (FC). The explosion resulted in at least eight injuries. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Cantt, Waqas Rafi, confirmed the event to be a suicide bombing during his conversation with journalists at the blast site. The militants, according to the police officer, targeted security force members for the attack.
