Peshawar: Heavy rain and storm killed 27 and more than 150 people wounded on Sunday.

According to officials, many houses and walls collapsed in Charsadda road, Liaqat Abad,Gahdu Samarbagh, Wahid Ghari, Sadiq Abad and Ring road areas.

The storm affected power supply system, making it difficult for rescuers to carry out rescue work.

At least 100 injured people have been brought to Lady Ready Hospital alone.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Shaehram Khan Tarakai confirmed the death toll. “Some 27 dead bodies have been brought to hospital,”

Ghani  also confirmed that efforts were under way to rescue the people trapped under the rubble of collapsed houses.

“We have declared emergency in all government-run hospitals of Peshawar,” Ghani said.

Apart from Peshawar, there are reports of casualties in Nowshehra and Charsadda as well.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan contacted Chief Minister Pervez Khattak on phone and directed him to ensure quality treatment to injured.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Sunday expressed grief over the losses of life and properties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province due to torrential rains.

The Prime Minister, who is on a visit to London, extended condolences to the grieved families.

He asked the provincial government and disaster management authorities to gear up the rescue efforts for controlling the damage.
