ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has sparked fury with his latest comments about Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian.

Known for bold takes, Smith called Ohanian a “wimp” for “allowing” Serena to dance at Super Bowl LVIII’s halftime show. The remark, aired on First Take, targeted Serena’s moves during Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us”—a diss track tied to her ex, Drake. Fans quickly labeled Smith’s critique as personal and misogynistic.

Stephen A. Smith on Serena Williams' cameo during the Super Bowl halftime show: "If I'm married and my wife is going to join trolling her ex, go back to his ass. 'Cause clearly you don't belong with me. What you worried about him for and you're with me? Bye. Bye." pic.twitter.com/uiYI2ltK4k

Serena Williams Super Bowl Dance Ignites Debate

Serena, 43, appeared at the Super Bowl, dancing to Lamar’s performance. She dated Drake from 2011 to 2015 before marrying Ohanian, Reddit’s co-founder, in 2017. Smith speculated she was “trolling” Drake, then questioned Ohanian’s silence. “If I’m your husband, why are you up there trolling your ex?” he said. “Go back to him—bye-bye.” Though Smith later claimed he was joking, the damage was done.

Sources say Serena found Smith’s words “disrespectful” and “attention-seeking.” “He’s a chauvinistic loudmouth crossing lines,” an insider told RadarOnline.com. Social media erupted, slamming Smith for attacking her marriage. With a history of provocative sports takes, this backlash highlights a misstep. Serena and Ohanian stand united as critics demand accountability from the ESPN star.
