Speaker Punjab Assembly formally requested President Arif Alvi to remove Governor Punjab, Baligh-ur-Rehman, over ‘misconduct.’

The speaker criticized the Punjab government’s unconstitutional actions in his letter and urged his removal.

He said the governor, as the president’s representative, should not violate the constitution.

The political situation in Punjab has deepened as the Centre and state clashed over no-trust votes against Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, the PA speaker and deputy speaker.

Yesterday, the governor and PA speaker rejected each other’s rulings on the no-trust vote and confidence session.

Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman is anticipated to decertify Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi after he didn’t seek a confidence vote today.

Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman signed the notification to remove CM Pervaiz Elahi, sources said.

The governor finished consultations and will announce soon. After the date changes, the notification may be issued at midnight, terminating CM Pervaiz Elahi’s confidence vote deadline.
