The South Africa vs India T20 World Cup 2026 Super Eight clash ended in a dominant 76-run Proteas victory at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. A fiery half-century from David Miller, followed by a disciplined bowling display, handed India their first defeat of the tournament.
The loss also ended India’s 13-match unbeaten streak in T20 World Cups, dating back to their semi-final defeat in 2022.
Set a challenging target of 188, India were bowled out for 111 in 18.5 overs. Despite a determined 42 from Shivam Dube, the defending champions struggled against South Africa’s clinical bowling attack.
Hardik Pandya and captain Suryakumar Yadav scored 18 each, while Abhishek Sharma (15) and Washington Sundar (11) were the only other batters to reach double figures.
Marco Jansen led the bowling charge with four wickets, while Keshav Maharaj claimed three in a decisive 15th over. Corbin Bosch picked up two wickets, and skipper Aiden Markram added one.
Earlier, South Africa posted 187/7 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by a crucial 97-run partnership between David Miller and Dewald Brevis for the fourth wicket.
India had struck early, with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh removing Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock, and Ryan Rickelton inside four overs. However, Miller and Brevis counterattacked to rebuild the innings.
Brevis scored 45 off 29 balls before falling to Dube. Miller continued the charge, hitting 63 off 35 deliveries, including seven fours and three sixes. Tristan Stubbs remained unbeaten on 44 off 24 balls to guide South Africa to a strong total.
For India, Bumrah was the standout bowler with three wickets for 15 runs. Arshdeep took two, while Varun Chakravarthy and Dube chipped in with one each.
