South Africa swiftly achieved a modest 58-run target, defeating Pakistan by 10 wickets at sun-drenched Newlands on Monday, clinching the series 2-0 within four days of the second and final Test.
Despite being forced to follow on, Pakistan posted a commendable second innings total of 478, led by Captain Shan Masood’s impressive 145 on a placid pitch.

Captain Temba Bavuma expressed satisfaction with the performance, noting, “It was quintessential Test cricket with initial advantages for bowlers followed by a more settled pitch.” He added that the experience would strengthen the team despite some lapses during the game.
This victory extends South Africa’s winning streak to seven consecutive Tests, just shy of their record nine-win streak between 2002 and 2003, setting them up ideally for the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia at Lord’s from June 11-15.
On the fourth day, Pakistan resumed at 213-1, effectively two down after Saim Ayub’s first-day ankle fracture. Although the pitch offered little assistance, South Africa managed two-morning dismissals. Marco Jansen removed Khurram Shahzad for 18, while Rabada’s delivery dislodged Kamran Ghulam’s off-stump for 28.
Post-lunch, South Africa took the new ball, securing pivotal wickets, including Masood, dismissed LBW by Kwena Maphaka, the youngest-ever South African Test player.
Reflecting on the match, Masood acknowledged initial shortcomings in both batting and bowling but praised the subsequent resilience shown by his team. “Our comeback showcased the spirit we strive for,” he remarked, “but we must learn to capitalize on key moments to secure wins.”
