The social media platform X was reinstated in Pakistan on Monday, following a suspension exceeding 36 hours that began on February 17 (Saturday).
Netblocks, an international internet monitoring entity, reported a “significant disruption to X ” on Saturday amidst growing turmoil and demonstrations against alleged electoral fraud. This came after Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha confessed to overseeing election tampering, sparking renewed debate over the election outcomes.
On Sunday, Netblocks highlighted the ongoing blockade of X, marking it as the most extended instance of internet censorship recently enforced by Pakistani authorities.
Notably, X experienced a brief restoration for 30 minutes on Sunday but was re-blocked, with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) remaining unresponsive to inquiries.
