Siri Paya, a rich and aromatic Pakistani stew, has achieved recognition by securing the 47th position in TasteAtlas’ 2024 ranking of the world’s top stews. Announced in April, TasteAtlas showcased the top 50 stews on their social media platforms, highlighting Siri Paya’s culinary prestige.
This Pakistani speciality is crafted from lamb or goat trotters and slow-cooks in a blend of spices, herbs, and aromatics. The name Siri Paya, meaning ‘head and feet,’ refers to its key ingredients: the head’s gelatinous meat and the marrow-rich trotters. This slow-cooked combination releases deep flavours, offering a comforting and hearty dish celebrated globally.
TasteAtlas identified Siri Paya distinctly under the Pakistani flag in its list by country. However, other South Asian dishes like India’s Keema, Korma, Dal, Shahi Paneer, and Vindaloo featured prominently, placing 6th, 22nd, and 50th, respectively.
Since its inception in 2018, TasteAtlas has become a leading reference for travellers interested in authentic global cuisines. The Croatia-based guide provides detailed reviews of traditional dishes, supported by food critics and extensive research, celebrating culinary heritage and innovation.
TasteAtlas’ list of “100 Must-Visit Eateries for 2024” also included Zahid Nihari from Karachi, ranked 89th. Known for its traditional Lucknow-origin stew, Zahid Nihari has been a cornerstone of Karachi’s food scene since 1974. It earned praise from food critics worldwide, including Salima Feerasta, for its exceptional flavours and enduring popularity.
