The Sindh Safe City Authority has released its performance report for October to December 2025, highlighting the growing role of technology-driven surveillance in strengthening public safety and law enforcement in Karachi.
According to the report, three suspects were arrested using facial recognition technology over the three months. The authority said the technology helped law enforcement identify and intercept individuals flagged through the system.
The Automatic Number Plate Recognition system also played a key role in enforcement efforts. Through ANPR alerts, authorities seized 26 vehicles, resulting in the registration of one criminal case. The system generated 707 alerts; 138 individuals were released after verification.
The report further revealed that the facial recognition system issued 13 alerts during the quarter. After scrutiny, 10 individuals were cleared, while three were taken into custody. In cases involving the public display of weapons, seven alerts were recorded. Five individuals were released after verification, while two were arrested, and cases were registered against them.

Additionally, two separate cases were registered specifically in connection with the public display of weapons, underscoring the authority’s focus on deterring visible violations of the arms law in public spaces.
Officials said the data reflects the increasing effectiveness of Karachi’s surveillance infrastructure in supporting policing efforts, improving response times, and enhancing overall public safety.
The report comes as Karachi police prepare to intensify enforcement against traffic violations. On Tuesday, authorities announced a citywide crackdown on vehicles using fancy or illegal number plates to prevent motorists from evading e-challans and other penalties.
