The Sindh High Court (SHC) has strongly criticized the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for its inconsistent stance regarding the blocking of X (formerly Twitter).
During a session by SHC Chief Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui on Monday, the court voiced dissatisfaction after PTA reversed an earlier notification from the Interior Ministry that banned the platform. The court inquired whether PTA’s actions might be considered professional misconduct or misrepresentation.
“Who instructed you to do this? Name the individual,” demanded the chief justice, clearly frustrated by the inconsistency.
Despite the deputy attorney general’s explanation that the mistake was unintentional and due to a heavy caseload, the court maintained its critical stance.
The court also hinted at the potential for contempt proceedings and mentioned that it might call PTA’s chairman for further clarification.
Additionally, the court criticized a PTA lawyer for volunteering information unexpectedly, noting a previous statement by another PTA lawyer who denied any such instructions had been issued.

The case has been deferred until September 24. The court consolidates PTA’s petition with other related cases and follows its previous orders.
