The Sindh government announced Pakistan’s first women-only public bus service, which would start operations in Karachi on February 1.
Sharjeel Inaam Memon, the minister of Sindh’s information and transportation, announced it on Twitter.
According to a statement from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader, the Transport department government of Sindh will start Pakistan’s First bus service exclusively for women and girls. The minister did not reveal the details of the bus service routes.
On January 13, 2023, Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the debut of Pakistan’s first-ever electric bus service in Karachi.
Sindh’s local government ministers, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, and labor minister, Saeed Ghani, the transport minister, launched the Peoples Electric Bus Service at Clock Tower, Seaview.
The provincial minister rode the bus to the inauguration ceremony and examined its amenities.
He told the media during his press conference that the green bus service would start running on January 13.
According to the minister, “These buses, which run entirely on stored battery, are of European standard and will not spread any pollution.” He also noted that in addition to reducing pollution, the buses would provide low-cost travel options to citizens.
Memon described the bus’s route as going from Tank Chowk in Malir Cantt to the Clock Tower roundabout in Seaview via the Khayaban-e-Ittehad road.
The minister further mentioned that passengers could take this bus to the airport. According to Memon, the cost of a private cab ride to the airport is typically Rs. 1,500. However, “you can take the EV bus service to the airport for just Rs. 50.”.
