The Sindh government continued its initiative to provide free solar panels to households that consume up to 100 units of electricity per month. This program aims to alleviate high power bills and promote eco-friendly energy sources.
The Sindh Energy Department is currently accepting applications, having already equipped 77,000 households with solar panels, and is targeting an additional 123,000 households in the next phase.
The initiative, announced by the provincial assembly, will distribute solar panels to 200,000 low-income families. If applications exceed 123,000, a lottery will determine recipients. Eligible households can apply via the Sindh Energy Department’s portal, ensuring accessibility for those meeting electricity usage criteria.

Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah emphasised the importance of affordable and sustainable energy during an event hosted by a private company on August 18. He showcased solar home systems and inverters, highlighting the province’s first public-private partnership power plant. This initiative aims to provide low-cost electricity through the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC), ultimately supporting energy affordability in the region.
The program aligns with Sindh’s efforts to modernise energy infrastructure, complementing initiatives like K-Electric’s load-shedding exemptions. By reducing reliance on traditional grids and combating inflation-driven bill hikes, the initiative supports Pakistan’s broader sustainability goals.
Sindh’s free solar panel program empowers low-income households, reduces energy costs, and advances sustainability, potentially shaping Pakistan’s green energy future.
