The Sindh Excise Department has initiated the transfer of property tax records to local government bodies.
In its first phase, the department has transferred all property tax records from its divisions in Karachi to local councils. The next phase will involve transferring records from nine districts of Hyderabad.
The process will continue with records from the Mirpur Khas, Benazirabad, Larkana, and Sukkur divisions transitioning to local council management. Sindh’s Secretary for Excise, Muhammad Saleem Rajput, has announced these changes through a notification.
This notification also states that property tax collection staff will engage more actively in field activities, including motor vehicle tax inspections and anti-narcotics operations. Moreover, the notification outlines that 23 excise division names have been reclassified as ‘regions and towns’ to reflect the new organizational structure.
Sindh’s Minister for Excise and Taxation, Sharjeel Memon, commented that this reorganization aims to enhance the department’s efficiency. He expressed optimism that this would lead to improved recovery of motor vehicle taxes and more vigorous anti-narcotics efforts throughout the city.
