After a successful auction, the Sindh Excise & Taxation Department set up a dedicated office for distributing premium number plates.
According to a press release, a recent meeting in Karachi chaired by Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon resulted in the decision to initiate the second auction phase for premium number plates. The meeting underscored the success and public endorsement of the first phase, which took place on June 30. This initial auction saw 40 premier number plates generate Rs675.4 million, with the most coveted plate alone fetching Rs100 million.
Furthermore, Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the auction’s proceeds will support rehabilitation efforts for those impacted by the 2022 floods in Sindh. At the event, certificates were awarded to the highest bidders.

The department plans to make it easier for residents to acquire number plates by setting up a motor registration office in the South District that will also operate in the evenings. Memon instructed that the vehicle registration process be simplified and expressed his intention to manage the department more corporately.
