The holiday schedule covers provincial government offices, semi-government organisations, metropolitan corporations and local councils, while essential services will remain exempt.
The announcement aligns with the federal government’s decision to observe Eid Ul-Fitr on March 20 and March 21, with government offices operating on both five-day and six-day work schedules. With Sunday, March 22, and Pakistan Day on Monday, March 23, government employees are set to get a four-day weekend.

Eid Ul Fitr 2026 In Pakistan
The holiday announcement comes as SUPARCO has said Eid ul Fitr 2026 in Pakistan is likely to fall on Saturday, March 21, based on astronomical calculations for the Shawwal moon. According to that forecast, the new moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born on March 19 at 6:23am, but the chances of sighting the crescent that evening are low.
SUPARCO said the moon’s age at sunset on March 19 will be about 12 hours and 41 minutes, while the gap between sunset and moonset along Pakistan’s coastal areas is expected to be around 28 minutes. Based on these factors, the space agency expects the first day of Shawwal to likely fall on March 21.
Despite the astronomical forecast, the final confirmation of Eid ul Fitr in Pakistan will come from the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for officially announcing the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
