The Sindh Education Department has taken decisive action against 30 private schools in Karachi in response to increasing parental outcry over unjustified increases in school fees.
This move follows a series of vocal street protests by parents who have voiced their concerns about the fee hikes.
Department officials have issued show cause notices to these institutions, demanding a detailed explanation for the recent escalation in tuition fees. The notices require the schools to account for the increments and participate in a scheduled meeting with the department’s administration on September 18th.
In addition to addressing the fee hikes, the Education Department has mandated that the schools submit a comprehensive report detailing three years of monthly fees collected specifically under computer education and security categories. This request scrutinises the financial management and justifications for fee allocations within these schools.
This scrutiny by the Sindh Education Department is part of a broader effort to ensure transparency and fairness in the pricing structures of private educational institutions, align them with regulatory standards and provide value to students and parents alike.
Furthermore, similar measures have been taken elsewhere, as indicated by recent directives in Lahore, where school owners were ordered to refund additional fees charged. This signals a nationwide initiative to regulate school fee structures more stringently.
