Sindh Assembly adopts amendment in local government bill

The Sindh Assembly adopted the Sindh Local Government Amendment Bill 2014 earlier today

The bill, proposed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) MPA Sikander Mandhro, will have nine amendments, including one which gives the Election Commission of Pakistan the authority to carry out delimitation of constituencies in the province.

Earlier, the MQM staged a walkout in protest of statements made by Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) chairperson Bilawal Bhutto during his rally in Karachi on Saturday.

Bilawal had criticised MQM chief Altaf Hussain and had said Altaf’s party was responsible for ruining Karachi, thereby resulting in both parties being at loggerheads with each other.

The statements further prompted the MQM to announce that they would quit the PPP-led coalition government.
