The Sialkot Stallionz’s decision to rename Multan Sultans was confirmed on Tuesday after CD Ventures acquired a majority stake in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise.
PSL Chief Executive Salman Naseer made the announcement during a joint press conference with franchise owner Hamza Majeed and CD Ventures chief Gohar Shah.
Naseer said CD Ventures has taken a controlling share in the team, which was initially purchased by OZ Developers at the PSL auction in January.
Following the latest developments, the franchise’s annual valuation has risen. Naseer added that the request to change the franchise’s name was made after Gohar Shah assumed the role of CEO and was subsequently approved.
“Sialkot Stallionz will now compete as Multan Sultans,” Naseer confirmed.
Hamza Majeed described the arrangement as a strategic partnership formally approved by both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the PSL.
He confirmed that Gohar Shah has officially joined as CEO and strategic partner. Majeed praised Shah’s enthusiasm and commitment to the league.
Speculation had circulated in recent weeks about changes in the franchise’s ownership structure. However, Majeed denied claims of financial instability and said discussions with CD Ventures were part of a planned strategic move.

Gohar Shah said retaining the Multan identity was a key priority for him. He expressed a broader cricketing vision, which he described as “Total Cricket,” aimed at strengthening Pakistan cricket as a whole.
Despite the rebranding, Majeed assured Sialkot supporters that elements of the Stallionz identity would remain visible. He also confirmed that transport arrangements would be made to facilitate fans travelling to matches.
The rebranding comes ahead of PSL season 11, which is scheduled to begin on March 26 across five venues in Pakistan.
